India vs Bangladesh, Only Test

Wacth Now

http://www.edigitalplace.com/amember/aff/go/sazib1/?i=35
This young and brash India was led by a captain who had seen it and experienced it all in the shorter forms of the game. However, MS Dhoni, the Test captain couldn't match MS Dhoni - the ODI skipper. He led from the front, but at times, India seemed to lack that killer punch, the aggression that made teams like Australia and South Africa - world beaters in the Test format. It is to his credit that Dhoni steered the ship, allowed the youngsters to get a feel of what Test cricket was all about before announcing his retirement and passing the baton to Virat Kohli - his long time successor, at the end of the Australian tour.
India begin their long journey towards Test revival with tiny steps. First up in a long and hectic international calendar will see them playing Bangladesh in a short series comprising of one Test and three ODIs. An inexperienced team India fought hard in South Africa, New Zealand, England and Australia. The fab four were replaced by a new generation of cricketers. They were mainly fed on the T20 diet, but they showed that they can play the longer form of the game with equal ease as well.
Preview:
A lot has changed since India and Bangladesh last played a Test match. Virender Sehwag, who famously remarked that Bangladesh didn't have the bowling to take 20 wickets, isn't around. Nor are the other members of the then fabled Indian middle-order. India aren't the top-ranked Test side anymore and could slip down to seventh if they lose while Bangladesh have won more Test matches in the last five years than they did before 2010. However, the hosts' proclivity to take those 20 wickets remain questionable.

After 18 months of playing only overseas Tests, India return to red-ball cricket in the familiar surroundings of the sub-continent. Virat Kohli starts his first full international season as Test captain with a one-off match against Bangladesh. Despite unfavourable results in South Africa, New Zealand, England and Australia and the subsequent slide in the rankings, the young Indian side showed a lot of pedigree. A win against Bangladesh should help reinforce their belief and hold them in good stead for the sterner tests to follow.

Bangladesh cricket is going through its renaissance. Their run to the quarter-finals of the World Cup was followed by a thrashing of Pakistan in the limited overs series. However, despite running their opponents close on many occasions, Bangladesh remain a work-in-progress in the longer format. A one-off Test gives them another opportunity to assess their standing.

Start Date: 10th June 2015

Venue: Khan Saheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah

Start time: 09:30 IST, 04:00 GMT

Weather: Hot and Humid with a high of 36 degree Celsius and a 10% chance of showers.

Team News:

Bangladesh:

Bangladesh have selection issues ahead of the Test exacerbated by injury to senior batsman Mohammad Mahmudullah. Nasir Hossain, who last played in the series against West Indies in September 2014, could replace him in the eleven and double up as an off-spinner. There are also concerns over captain Mushfiqur Rahim's workload after he sustained a finger injury during the Pakistan Tests and is likely to handover keeping duties to Litton Das. Speedster Rubel Hossain's return to fitness, however, would relieve the Bangladesh supporters especially in the aftermath of Shahdat Hossain's long-term injury.

Probable XI: Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (c), Soumya Sarkar, Litton Das (wk) Shuvagata Hom, Taijul Islam, Mohammad Shahid, Rubel Hossain

India:

India will return to the opening pair of Shikhar Dhawan and Murali Vijay following KL Rahul's late withdrawal due to illness. With a mixed county cricket experience behind him, Cheteshwar Pujara should return to the playing eleven after facing the axe in the New Year's Test in Sydney. It remains to be seen, however, if he will return to his usual position at No. 3 or swap places with Rohit Sharma. The returning Harbhajan Singh is likely to partner fellow off-spinner R Ashwin to counter the left-handers in the Bangladeshi ranks while the think-tank will weigh up Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav for the second pacer's slot.

Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Murali Vijay, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (c), Ajinkya Rahane, Rohit Sharma, Wriddhiman Saha, Ravichandran Ashwin, Harbhajan Singh, Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav/Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Stats and Trivia:

- Shakib Al Hasan needs five runs and a wicket to complete 2000 runs and 100 wickets in Bangladesh

- Mominul Haque stands a chance to equal AB de Villiers' record of having scored the most number of fifties in consecutive Tests (12).

Quotes:

'We have learnt in the past few Test matches but starting now, we want to start achieving the results we really want, not to go away from every Test match thinking we have learnt from it'

- India captain Virat Kohli lays down the marker when asked about his team's goals.

'I am nowhere near him, you know he is the king of all forms of cricket'

- An embarrassed Mominul Haque on comparisons with AB de Villiers.

Juventus vs Barcelona Champions League 2015

Play Now

http://www.edigitalplace.com/amember/aff/go/sazib1/?i=47

Work rate
Juventus' No 1 asset is their willingness to work hard and muck in as a team. They will run and run and run, as they proved in the second leg of the semi-final at the Bernabeu, where they run for 7.5km more than Real Madrid in the game.
Six of the top 10 players in the competition who have covered the most distance come from Juventus - as well as each of the top three, although Giorgio Chiellini won't be playing - whilst Barcelona's first man on the list is Neymar, way down in 13th.
Massimiliano Allegri's team not only have the quality to punish mistakes, they put in the blood and sweat to make their own luck.
Barcelona are known for their swarming pressing game, but Juventus have been the masters at it this season. They will never be out of the game as long as they keep believing.
READ MORE: Five reasons Barca will win
Buffon and Pirlo swansong
Two of the greatest players of their generation, Gianluigi Buffon (37) and Andrea Pirlo (35) are surely playing in the last major finals of their illustrious careers.
Buffon has never won the competition and will be desperate to lift his third trophy of the season as captain of the Old Lady. Pirlo has won it twice in his Milan prime, but the last of those came in 2007.
Not only will the pair be desperate to win the competition, but their team-mates and fans all over the world will be pulling for the two legends to get their hands on the trophy.

Catenaccio
This Juventus team is much more than the old Italian stereotype of a being defensive and negative, but they can turn it that way if they really want to.
As numerous pundits, including Paul Scholes, have pointed out, the way to beat Barcelona isn't to try and play them at their own game, it's to form a defensive wall and let them try and break you down. With an experienced back-line and goalkeeper, and hard-workers throughout the team, Juventus should be able to execute this game plan better than most.
The injury to Giorgio Chiellini is a massive shame, but Juventus still have the players to pull it off.
Set-pieces
For all their attacking brilliance Barcelona do have one slight chink in their armour - set-pieces. The problem is winning attacking free-kicks and corners and then having someone with the quality to deliver dangerous balls.
They have that man in Pirlo and with Gerard Pique and Sergio Busquets the only players over 6ft in the Barca team, Juventus could look to exploit that with the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Andrea Barzagli, Alvaro Morata and even Patrice Evra, a strong aerial threat.
Underdog story
Ok, ok, we're clutching at straws a bit. But no one expected Juventus to get past Real Madrid, and they were undoubtedly the better team in both legs, playing the tie to perfection.
Allegri has proven to be a shrewd tactician this season and will have his Juve team extremely well prepared to deal with the monumental Barcelona threat.

Juventus v Barcelona final: reporters' view

http://www.edigitalplace.com/amember/aff/go/sazib1/?i=47

Juventus and FC Barcelona reporters Paolo Menicucci and Graham Hunter run the rule over the finalists, assessing just where the Berlin showdown will be won and lost.

 Key moment
Paolo Menicucci: Juventus took a 2-1 lead to Germany for the round of 16 second leg against Borussia Dortmund, but they were without the injured Andrea Pirlo and then lost Paul Pogba inside the first half-hour at the BVB Stadion Dortmund. From that position, a 3-0 win was remarkable. "We have realised that we have great strength, technically and physically," Massimiliano Allegri said after the game. "We have left an exclamation mark in Europe."

Graham Hunter: Either when Luis Enrique and Lionel Messi agreed that Luis Suárez should permanently move to central striking position or Neymar's goal to make it 3-0 against FC Bayern München at the Camp Nou in the semi-final first leg. Subsequent events proved that a three-goal cushion was essential to escape from Munich with a place in the final secured.
Key player
Paolo Menicucci: Carlos Tévez has been a real string-puller this season with his goals and relentless hard-working approach, but another South American could be Allegri's ace in the hole in Berlin. Arturo Vidal rushed his recovery from a knee injury in order to play the FIFA World Cup with Chile last summer, and struggled with fitness for a great part of the season.

Arturo Vidal is back to his best after a testing season
However the midfield warrior seems to have finally found his mojo. "Vidal is no longer running behind opponents, he is finally running at them," a confident Allegri said. He scored 15 and 18 goals respectively in all competitions over the previous two campaigns, compared to only eight this term: does he have one in the bag for the most important game?
Graham Hunter: Messi is leagues ahead in this category. Inspired from start to finish in the UEFA Champions League, his display against Manchester City FC in the round of 16 second leg was truly memorable, while his pair of goals in the first leg against Bayern will not be forgotten by anybody who saw them.
Form
Paolo Menicucci: Considering how they performed in the away leg of their semi-final with Real Madrid CF – improving in the second half despite the oppressive heat in the Spanish capital – and in the recent Coppa Italia final against SS Lazio, when they won 2-1 in extra time, Juve are certainly close to peak physical form. "You cannot be at 100% after a long season," Allegri said. "But we will be as close as possible to that in Berlin." With the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia already in the bag, Juve earned a fortnight to focus on Berlin.
Graham Hunter: Stunning. Since the first week of January they have recorded 30 wins, two draws, two defeats, with 104 goals scored and 23 conceded.
Big-game experience
Paolo Menicucci: Juve may have reached the UEFA Champions League final for the first time since 2003 and some of their players have never appeared in a match of such magnitude, but Allegri can also count on veterans who know a thing or two about big games.

2009: Barcelona's midfield carousel leaves United dizzy
Three of them (Gianluigi Buffon, Andrea Barzagli and Andrea Pirlo) even know what it takes to lift a trophy in Berlin having won the 2006 World Cup with Italy at Berlin's Olympiastadion. Meanwhile Patrice Evra will play his fifth UEFA Champions League final. His half-time speech against Madrid completely changed the Bianconeri approach in the second half, according to several of his team-mates.
Graham Hunter: Insuperable. Not only have the majority of these players won a couple of UEFA Champions League finals, they've racked up World Cup finals, UEFA European Championship wins plus a flood of domestic trophies. Nerves won't be a problem.
Why they'll win
Paolo Menicucci: Defence, set pieces. Whether Allegri will opt for a 3-5-2 or a 4-3-1-2 formation, I don't expect Barcelona to find the same space they had against Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern in the previous rounds. Juve midfielders, however, will always have be ready to help, especially when Messi drops deep to receive the ball. Meanwhile set pieces could be Juve's main attacking weapon: Pirlo's educated feet and a strong physical presence in the box could create Barcelona a few problems.
Graham Hunter: In 2006 Messi told me (after admitting his fury at not being picked for the Paris final) "God willing I'll be back and I'll win this trophy many more times". A hunger he's never lost. He's the heat in their flame.
http://www.edigitalplace.com/amember/aff/go/sazib1/?i=47©AFP/Getty Images
Barcelona's attacking trio have been in potent form
Why they won't win
Paolo Menicucci: Regardless how well you defend, players like Neymar, Luis Suárez and Messi – not to mention Andrés Iniesta – can always punish you. Against Madrid, Juventus proved to have enough character to react after going behind, but everything would become much trickier should Barcelona take the lead. That would force the Bianconeri to leave more spaces for Luis Enrique's lethal attack.
Graham Hunter: Having spoken to Luis Enrique and numerous players about Juventus, what stands out is that they see the Italian champions as possessing a hard-nosed winning mentality which stems, partly, from repeatedly racking up Scudetti in the last four years and from signing a mix of players with talent, power and hunger. The Bianconeri unite some qualities that Barcelona face rarely.
Strengths
Paolo Menicucci: There was around a 7.5km difference in distance covered by Juventus compared to Real Madrid in the away leg of the semi-final. Nothing new, however, as Juve have six players in the top ten when it comes to distance covered in the competition. Stephan Lichtsteiner, Giorgio Chiellini and VIdal are the leading three; Neymar is Barcelona's highest in 13th. Expect the same spirit – with 11 players always ready to make an extra run when needed – in the final.
Graham Hunter: The media call Barcelona's front three 'The Trident'. The other players regularly describe Messi, Suárez and Neymar as 'monsters'. There's a reason for that. In the UEFA Champions League alone the three have scored 25 of the team's 28 goals and given eight assists in nine games together. Monstrous.

Great Juventus goals
Weaknesses
Paolo Menicucci: Juve have scored only 16 goals in Europe compared to Barcelona's 28 this season. Messi and Neymar together have scored more than Juve's entire squad. However with the in-form Álvaro Morata and Tévez often dropping between the lines and midfielders who can attack spaces like Vidal, Pogba and Claudio Marchisio, Juve still have different options to hurt the Barcelona defence.
Graham Hunter: They haven't been massively overexposed, only in Paris and Munich, but while the training-ground set play strategy work conducted by Luis Enrique's assistant, Juan Carlos Unzué, has been tremendously successful Barcelona are still vulnerable to losing headers in their own box from set plays for the simple reason that they continue to put a premium on ability over height and power.
Predicted lineup
Juventus: Buffon; Lichtsteiner, Bonucci, Chiellini, Evra; Marchisio, Pirlo, Pogba; Vidal; Tévez, Morata.
Barcelona: Ter Stegen; Alves, Piqué, Mascherano, Alba: Rakitic, Busquets, Iniesta: Messi, Suárez, Neymar.

 Netherlands vs. USA

The United States men’s national team will begin its preparations in earnest for next month’s Gold Cup when facing the first of two friendlies against high-caliber European opposition on Friday. First up for Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad is a match with last year’s World Cup brine medalists, the Netherlands, in Amsterdam before heading to Cologne to take on the world champions Germany next Wednesday.
It has been a hard road for the U.S. since last summer in Brazil, with Klinsmann utilizing plenty of new faces as he builds toward the next World Cup in 2018. But after salvaging a 1-1 draw in Switzerland and then beating local rivals Mexico in April, the team should carry some belief with it into two challenging fixtures that Klinsmann believes are crucial to his players’ development.
“We want to play against those nations and show them that we not only came here to defend, but that we came here to attack and that we want to go forward and we want to score goals against them and we want to make life very miserable for them,” he told the U.S. Soccer website. “So the learning curve is big, and for us coaches too because we get a lot to see and afterwards we know a lot more.”
The Gold Cup is the focus of the U.S. team’s year, with the chance to maintain Concacaf superiority and secure a place at the 2017 Confederations Cup. With that in mind, Klinsmann has largely curtailed the experimentation that has characterized his selections since the World Cup. This time around there are no new inclusions, although there are some familiar faces missing with many of those given a chance by Klinsmann in recent months keeping their place. World Cup starting center-backs Omar Gonzalez, Matt Besler and Geoff Cameron are absent, although the latter is thought to have a minor fitness issue. Meanwhile, more inexperienced defenders like Ventura Alvaado, John Brooks and Jonathan Orozco will get further chances to stake their claim.
“Putting together the pieces now for these two very, very prestigious friendlies, obviously in the back of your mind there’s the Gold Cup,” Klinsmann said. “It’s a huge opportunity to play nations like these two in order to see a lot of things that you want to see from your players. In a certain way, we want to see a couple of guys get thrown in the freezing cold water and see how they can swim and where they stand right now in the ranking of the men’s national team. That’s why I want to see Ventura Alvarado or John Brooks play in games like this.”
Further forward, regular attacking duo Clint Dempsey and Jozy Altidore also miss out, with the former awaiting the birth of his fourth child and the latter out injured. Jermaine Jones also had to pull out of the squad after suffering a groin injury with the New England Revolution on Sunday
Still, the U.S. may well fancy their chances of scoring an impressive result on the road in Amsterdam. It has been a tough time for the Netherlands since last year’s World Cup, with the man who took over from Louis van Gaal, Guus Hiddink, encountering plenty of criticism. The team sit third in its qualifying group for Euro 2016, although it did get a morale-boosting win over Spain in a friendly last time out in March. For the Netherlands the match against the U.S. will act as preparation for a crucial qualifier against Latvia next Friday. The latest squad includes Manchester United duo Robin van Persie and Daley Blind, as well as new United signing Memphis Depay. But Arjen Robben is out through injury, while Wesley Sneijder will miss the match with the U.S. after playing in the Turkish Cup final with Galatasaray on Wednesday.
Prediction: The U.S. shouldn’t be overwhelmed against a Netherlands team that has been struggling and that will very much be focusing on next week’s qualifier. However, the U.S. attack in particular is lacking in experience of facing top-level international opposition and the Netherlands should have the required quality to pick up a narrow victory.
